EcoConnect addresses the urgent global challenge of the climate emergency by promoting ecological literacy among young people and educators. Recognizing that climate change transcends borders and generations, the project aims to provide the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to drive sustainable change now and in the future.
The project combines digital fluency with experiential, nature-based learning, using the 5E-STEM pedagogical model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate) to ensure an inquiry-driven and hands-on educational experience directly linked to real-world environmental issues. This innovative approach supports both students and teachers in navigating and responding to the complexities of the climate crisis.
EcoConnect aligns with Erasmus+ priorities by emphasizing environmental sustainability, digital transformation in education, and inclusive teaching practices. Over two years, it will engage over 500 students aged 14 to 17 – including those from disadvantaged backgrounds – and 50 educators, tracking progress in ecological literacy through a structured evaluation system framed within the SMART methodology.
Key project outputs include the EcoTech Pedagogy Toolkit, which offers ecology-themed learning scenarios integrated with Web 2.0 digital tools, and an Ecology Animation Game designed to teach environmental principles through interactive play. Additionally, the project offers “STEM Enrichment” journeys blending STEM subjects with ecological themes based on the 5E model.
To maximize impact, EcoConnect will launch a dedicated website and social media channels. Participating schools will engage in STEM Discovery Week and collaborate internationally through the eTwinning project, promoting peer learning and cultural exchange. The project targets a broad range of stakeholders: students gain vital ecological and digital literacy skills; teachers receive training and resources to embed new methods in their classrooms; school administrators help integrate project outcomes into school culture; and parents are encouraged to support sustainable practices at home. At the community level, local workshops raise environmental awareness and foster collective responsibility.
Ultimately, EcoConnect aspires not only to educate but also to inspire young Europeans to lead with purpose, resilience, and responsibility in addressing the climate crisis – both locally and globally.
